UKTV FOOD NETWORK TO FEATURE
GRENADA
Dateline St. George’s.
Grenada is among Ten (10)
Caribbean Islands that will be
utilized for the production of a
10 part cookery television
series for UKTV Food. It will
explore the traditional cuisines
of the Caribbean, as presented
by Gary Rhodes.
According to Mr. Robin
Field of Denham
Productions, under whose
auspices the series is
being produced, "this
will be a culinary
journey across the
Caribbean through which
the cuisine will allow
us to explore the
different islands, the
people, the landscape
and the culture – as
well as discover a range
of delicious traditional
dishes. As a true
celebration of the
islands, the series will
also portray the region
in a very favourable
way, promoting the
Caribbean to the UK and
beyond".
Each programme
will be based in
a different
island as Gary
Rhodes discovers
the best of the
regional dishes,
learns to cook
them, and then
cater for a
major
celebration
banquet at the
end of the
series.
During
their
five-night
visit to
Grenada,
commencing
January
24,
2009,
the
ten-member
production
team
will
film at
the
Gouyave
Nutmeg
processing
Station,
River
Antoine
Rum
Distillery,
and BB’s
Crabback
Restaurant.
They
will
also
film the
cooking
sequences
at the
Gary
Rhodes
Restaurant
at the
Calabash
Hotel.
Denham Productions have produced two similar series during the last two years entitled "Rhodes across India" and "Rhodes across China" which were both hugely successful series in terms of viewers. "Rhodes across India" was the most successful commission ever produced by UKTV Food when it was broadcast, and the exposure was of great value to all those involved.
The Grenada Board of Tourism is delighted for this opportunity to be highlighted on the UKTV Food Network. As one of the most important and successful multi-channel providers in the UK that attracts 27 million viewers each month, with its nine distinctive TV channels, the GBT is satisfied that Grenada’s programme in this series will be of a high quality, and would serve to generate additional interest among potential visitors.

STATEMENT FROM THE GRENADA BOARD OF TOURISM ON
COMMENTS BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
RELATING TO DEPORTMENT IN PUBLIC
Grenada
has
the
proud
reputation
of
being
the
most
hospitable
destination
in
the
Caribbean.
Furthermore,
our
safety
status
is
the
envy
of
many
other
destinations.
The Grenada
Board of
Tourism is
pleased at
the
successes
achieved in
growing
visitor
arrivals to
Grenada over
the last ten
years. Much
of this
growth has
been
stimulated
by the
general
endorsement
of Grenada
by visitors
who have
enjoyed an
experience
free of
harassment
and
molestation.
The Royal Grenada
Police Force
contributes
tremendously to
Grenada’s tourism
status and has been
able to do so due to
their understanding
of, and sensitivity
to, the needs of the
industry.
Recent remarks attributed to
the Commissioner of Police
do not reflect an official
intention to cause
embarrassment, curtail
freedom or otherwise cause
visitors to be uncomfortable
in any way.
It is the case, however, that the
Police are required by law to
maintain public order and, in this
respect, do exercise judgment
regarding the limits of personal
bodily exposure within the society
as a whole.
The
Grenada Board of Tourism’s promotional
materials do make it clear that public
decency is required on the part of all
visitors particularly with respect to their
mode of dress.
Actions by the
Police in this respect have not previously given
cause for alarm or complaint. Accordingly, the
Grenada Board of Tourism gives the assurance that no
improper, unlawful or discriminatory action will be
taken which might affect visitors’ enjoyment of our
beautiful and welcoming destination.

GBT CONDUCTS GRAND ANSE BEACH SURVEY
Dateline St.
George’s: The Grenada Board of Tourism has launched
a ten-day survey to better understand some of the
issues, needs, practices, and concerns regarding
tourism activities on Grand Anse Beach. It will
examine visitor arrivals by land and water-based
taxis, and monitor the flow of visitors to the Grand
Anse Spice & Craft Market. It will also evaluate the
available facilities for rental of chairs on the
beach.
A cadre of
researchers has been trained to strategically
implement an observation-type approach to measure
and calculate these activities in a manner that
would not be obtrusive to visitors and users.
Esther Thomas,
Head of Research and Planning at the GBT says "We
are aware that since the Grand Anse Beach is the
nucleus of Grenada’s Tourism industry we have a
responsibility to ensure that the services on offer
are at levels that would meet the expectations of
users. This survey will eventually allow us to
better appreciate what happens on the beach and
position us to improve on the visitors’
experiences".
The Grenada Board
of Tourism appreciates the cooperation of the
general public in ensuring that this data collection
phase of the survey runs smoothly.
